Beginning of the year Entire School Camping Experience

All students will attend an off-site camp the third week in September. Depending on maturity, all students will be encouraged to stay overnight at the camp.  A bus will be available to take children home at the end of the day and bring them back in the morning should there be a reason the student cannot spend the night at the camp.

The method of instruction in the lower grades will be nature and science with emphasis on hikes, outdoor classes, and stream exploring.  United States History will be the focus in the upper grades.  Parents are encouraged to attend.

The Academy will pay for all camping experiences from the Academy's operating budget.

Students will travel to camps with their buddies:  Preschool with Fourth, Kindergarten with Fifth, First with Sixth, Second with Seventh (Washington D.C.), and Third with Eighth (Boston), Ninth will choose a location each year as they graduate eighth grade which will be unique to them and their class’ interests.  The Ninth graders will choose a location which will allow them to provide community service where they visit.

Faculty will not attend the camping experience week instead the students will be joined by teaching assistants, community volunteers, and parents.  Faculty will use this week as planning days to better coordinate the individual instruction of the student population and to participate in Professional Development classes.
