Parental Choice in
Curriculum,
Grade Placement, and
Method of Instruction

Parents know their children best. It is the practice of Clearwater Academy to place students in classes according to their parent's analysis of their child's learning style and achievement level confirmed by appropriate assessments.

After parents have assisted the Academy in determining which level the Academy should place their child, parents need to inform the Academy which learning style is most beneficial for their child: Is the child a spatial learner? Does he react more favorably to information presented as a whole or in parts?  Does he learn more quickly from artistic application or memorization activities or physical manipulation? Is the child a fast learner or a deliberate learner or does the child have a learning disability? Does the child work best independently or in a small group or in large groups. Can the child work without supervision and still meet deadlines? Is the child a combination of all these methods?  The parent’s input is then matched to the Academy’s assessment methods and a plan of action is individualized for each student.  This plan is then monitored and adjusted as the student’s needs dictate.

In addition, if a parent feels a certain topic is not appropriate for their child to learn in a school setting the Academy will exclude it from the course of study for that child. As an extension, if a parent feels the student is not ready for a particular subject at this time, that subject will also be postponed from that student's course of study.

The Academy will provide a recommended course of study at each grade level which can be adapted (or not) as the parents choose.  The Academy will make certain that prior to the graduation of the student from the Academy all national standards will be met or exceeded.

Computerized progress reports will be available to the families reflecting student achievement and progress.
