Value Statement for Parents
As a parent of a student attending the Academy you have the following rights:
- The right to be treated with respect
- The right to make innocent, unintentional mistakes without reprimand
- The right to maintain your own opinions and convictions, and when necessary to change your mind without outside judgment
- The right to guide your child's instruction along methods you deem appropriate to your child's learning style as supported by educational assessment and research
- The right to take responsibility for only your own problems or inappropriate behavior
- The right to a challenging education for your child which you can constantly monitor by close communication with the Academy
- The right to have your child's accomplishments noted publicly
- The right to be confident your child is receiving his or her education in a drug-free, safe, welcoming environment
- The right to shoulder the adult responsibilities of being the ultimate teacher and protagonist of your own child
- The right to speak up for yourself and your child and not have your actions judged without an inquiry into the facts on both sides
- The right to observe and critique your child’s instruction at any time
